Handling of Conflict Materials
Various regulations worldwide address the handling of so-called conflict minerals. «Conflict minerals» refers to raw materials such as tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold that originate from specific, conflict-ridden regions. The regulatory measures aim to reduce demand for these raw materials and, in doing so, to limit the financing opportunities of armed groups through raw material extraction and trade, as well as to prevent or impede human rights violations in crisis regions.
For companies in the EU, the EU Conflict Minerals Regulation (EU) 2017/821 is particularly relevant. In addition, the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas and the US Dodd-Frank Act (Section 1502) are key regulatory frameworks, even if they are not directly legally binding on EU companies.
The ALD Group takes its responsibility for ethical and sustainable trade practices – especially in its supply chains – very seriously. Therefore, we have developed appropriate guidelines and measures to ensure that our supply chains are free of conflict minerals.
For further information on our handling of conflict minerals and our related measures, you can download the ALD Corporate Policy for the Correct Handling of Conflict Minerals and the audit report pursuant to Article 6 of the EU Conflict Minerals Regulation (Germany only).
